Chapter 7: End of half term 1

After Vietnam, I spend 6 nights at home and left the country again on Wednesday morning of our first week back. A couple of people out of my grade and I went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend yet another MUN Conference. It was held at the International School of Kuala Lumpur and the theme was 'reaching fro 2030' with the main focus on the Sustainable Development Goals by the UN.

The conference was held for three days in which I represented Chile in the Disarmament and International Security Council (short DISEC). The other delegates and I had fruitful debates about issues such as the question of militarizing space, preventing spillover violence in civil conflicts, the question of foreign military intervention in internal conflicts and combating terrorism of non-state actors. I am very happy to have met so many interesting people from China, Japan, Indonesia and other places and to have connected further with the people in my own grade.

After coming back home, school work took over most of my time, around that time most of our tests were written which then count into our half-term report card which was released on the 13th of December.

However, in between the heavy school work I still found a lot of time to enjoy the community here in the Boarding House and the school. We had a so-called Scholar Dinner where we met people from the Foundation, Parent's Association and possible donators. The whole evening was about us scholars, how we got here, our personal stories and why people should invest in future scholarship and help support an amazing part in our diverse community. All of the families that I met that evening were very kind and interest in us, I even met a lovely German mother whose son goes to the Dover campus. I engaged in a lot of interesting conversations and hope that we were able to input something valuable into the community.

Another major event before we are all heading out of Singapore for our Christmas break was our BH Christmas dinner. Many people performed songs or dances, we had a hilarious performance from our favourite university advisers and we ate delicious food. Together with the photo booth and the tombola, the evening was truly remarkable and an amazing end to this first very hard and tough, but also lovely and unforgettable first half term.

But now everybody is very much looking forward to being done with the last days of school and head home, or in my case have an amazing Christmas in Singapore before flying off to the Philippines :)
