From 2018 to 2021, I participated in 5 Model United Nations Conferences in Hamburg (DE), Oldenburg (DE), Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (MYS). I had been the delegate of Canada, Monaco, North Korea and Chile before Chairing my first-ever Model United Nations Middle School Conference at UWCSEA in 2021. As a delegate, I debated a wide range of topics, from protecting the rights of pregnant women in LEDCs to human rights violations of journalists in China. While most of the work happens in smaller groups to form alliances and introduce resolutions, the other half of the conference is usually spent debating these issues and the proposed resolution. At the MUN in Oldenburg, I was the sponsor (main author) of such a resolution, meaning I had to present, defend and debate it in front of the General Assembly with about 200 other delegates in the conference room. At this MUN conference, I was granted the Best Delegate Award. While it was a small accomplishment, the middle school committee I chaired selected me as their favourite chair which was very flattering.

Through my participation and chairing at MUN's I gained much knowledge about current conflicts and the intricate positions each country represents; it became especially challenging when representing the delegation of a country with which I personally disagree in terms of politics and legislation. Throughout the conferences, I obtained valuable public speaking, debate, discussion, communication, and teamwork skills. Chairing a conference offered a chance to improve my leadership competence. I am very grateful that I was able to travel to Kuala Lumpur with my school for such a conference and to have met many amazing participants and organisers over the years.
